Airport Athens

Athens International Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, named after the Greek ex-premier, is the largest airport in Greece. It is the successor of Athens-Hellinikon airport, which has now been closed. The airport was designed, built and financed by a consortium of German construction and operating companies, led by Hochtief in Essen. It has been in operation since 2001 and is now used by about 16 million passengers annually. Those wishing to see the famous Acropolis, Kallimarmaro Stadium or one of the other attractions in Athens in real life can book a flight from London or one of the many other airports in the UK to Athens with British Airways or Aegean Airlines. Cheap flights to Athens are also operated by easyJet. Upon arrival at Athens airport, passengers can enjoy all kinds of services. Those wanting to rent a car should head for the car park P5 to one of the international car rental offices. Many companies have offices at Athens airport, these include Avis, Budget Car Rental, Hertz, National Car Rental / Alamo and Sixt Rent A Car. Passengers arriving at the airport with a private car can choose to park in one of the short and long-term car parks; car parks P1 & P2 are free of charge for up to 20 minutes. Athens Airport is also easily accessible without a car. From the centre of Athens (Syntagma Square), the Metro Line 3 and the bus X95 go to Athens Airport. To get from Athens Airport to Piraeus please take the X96 line. Other cities in the region (Rafina, Keratea, etc.) are served by the KTEL Athens Airport bus. Behind the bus stop - opposite the arrivals and departure halls - you will find Sofitel Athens Airport Hotel, a hotel with more than 300 rooms which is directly in Athens airport.
