Airport Bangkok

Suvarnabhumi International Airport (also: Second Bangkok International Airport or New Bangkok International Airport) has been in use since the end of 2006 and replaces the former Don Muang International Airport in the North of Bangkok, which was previously known by the the IATA code BKK and on 27 september 2006 handed this code over to the new airport which is located east of the city. Flights from London to Bangkok are operated by a number of airlines and usually involve one stop-over. Airlines operating flights to Thailand include Air India, Kingfisher airlines or Sri Lankan airlines. Once at the airport, passengers have a choice of transport with which to reach the centre of Bangkok, which is about 30 km or 23 miles from the airport. The fastest way to reach town is with the Suvarnabhumi Airport Railway Link, a railway operating between the airport and Bangkok city centre. Since 2010, the train has been running between the hours of 6 am and midnight on the Express and City Line. The Express Line (also purple line) transports passengers at 30-minute intervals and takes 15 minutes to go from Makkasan in central Bangkok to the airport and vice versa; the City Line (also Red Line) runs every 15 minutes and due to the additional stops along the line, will take twice as long for the same distance. Alternatively, those with heavy luggage could also take a taxi (depending on traffic, the journey time can take between half an hour and 3 hours) or a shuttle bus. Shuttle buses operate regular services to the centre of Bangkok and also serve the airport offices of car rental companies. International car rental companies at the airport include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Thai Rent A Car, all of which offer a variety of different size cars. Passengers looking for accommodation in the vicinity of the airport can reserve a room at the Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel which has about 600 rooms and is only three minutes from the main terminal building. This 4-star hotel is - together with the Best Western Premier Amaranth Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel Bangkok which is also near the airport and the slightly lower priced Siam Place Airport Hotel - provided by any kind of comfort. All hotels near Bangkok airport have an internal shuttle service.
