Airport Basel

EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg is located on the border of Switzerland - France - Germany on French territory, but closer to the Swiss city of Basel than to the French city of Mulhouse and the German city of Freiburg. Basel-Mulhouse Airport is a binational airport. In a treaty between France and Switzerland, it was decided in 1949 to erect the buildings and runways on French territory although they were financed by Switzerland. Air traffic is controlled by French air traffic controllers. Basel Mulhouse airport has a Swiss and a French side. Hall 1 and 2 are used for French departures from Basel airport, Hall 3 and 4 are used for Swiss departures. The departure and arrival area is also divided into two areas - for flights to and from Schengen and non-Schengen countries. Even the parking lots and parking garages have a Swiss (S1 to S5 and S12) and a French side (F1 to F3 and F5 to F6). S1 and F1 are parking garages with short-term parking, the other car parks are open air. Parking fees at the airport Basel Mulhouse depend on the length of stay. Stopping to pick up or drop off passengers is free of charge in front of the terminal building. It is also possible to rent a car at Basel airport. French car hire companies are based in the first Floor of Hall 1; Swiss car rental companies in the second Floor of Hall 4. Alternatively, passengers can use public transport. Line 50 of the Basel Transport Authority (BVB) runs between the airport and the Euro Basel SBB train station. The journey takes about 20 minutes. There are also buses which are operated by private companies from Basel Airport to Freiburg (Basel – Freiburg Airport Shuttle), the Europa-Park, the SNCF train station of Saint Louis and Strasbourg.
