Airport Beijing

Beijing's international airport bears the official name Beijing Capital International Airport and is the largest airport in China as well as Asia by passenger numbers. It is located about 20 km or 14 miles from Beijing. Despite the proximity of the city, transfer from the airport to downtown Beijing takes relatively long. The taxi ride takes about an hour. This is due to the high volume of traffic in the city. The Airport Expressway is linked to downtown Beijing. Beijing Capital Airport airport serves not only the needs of the city but is also one of the most prestigious projects in the People's Republic of China. National and international flights are operated from separate terminals. National flights are handled in Terminal 1; Terminal 2 is used for international flights. Beijing's new Terminal 3 was opened in 2008 just in time for the Summer Olympic Games. The architect for the prestigious building was none other than the renowned Norman Foster, who also built the glass-dome Reichstag in Berlin. With a size of 1.3 million square meters, China celebrated the terminal as the largest building in the world. National and international flights are handled here in separate wings. Every 10 to 30 minutes shuttle buses commute between the airport and downtown, the train stations and different districts of Beijing. Buses even stop at all major hotels. The most widely used is the route to Xidan, which is only a few minutes from the Forbidden City. There is also a train line with an automated train from Terminal 3 to Beijing Railway Station. Parking at Beijing airport is easy. For international passengers, Terminal 2 has a 6 floor car park, which is open around the clock and guarded by a security service.
