Airport Cape Town
The airport in Cape Town (Cape Town International Airport) is the second largest airport in South Africa after Johannesburg. It is located about 20 km or 14 miles east of Cape Town and is easy to reach on the N2 highway. The airport was opened in 1955 and has been modernised and refurbished in recent years. Extensive modernisation work was carried out in particular in the run up to the Football World Cup 2010, comprising the construction of a new terminal and further parking spaces, for example. In total, the airport has 5 terminals, which are all linked by the new central terminal. All flights are checked-in here. In 2010, Cape Town airport received an award for the best airport in Africa and best renovated airport in Africa from the Airport Council International (ACI). Privately operated shuttle buses provide a service from the airport to Cape Town. Departures are timed to coincide with flights, but the buses can also be booked in the arrivals hall. Alternatively, there are taxis operated by the airport company Touch Down Taxis. The journey to Cape Town takes about 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. There is no train line or public bus service to Cape Town.
