Airport Cologne

Cologne-Bonn airport is used by nearly 10 million passengers annually. Cologne airport is near the German city Cologne which is in the southeast of Germany. The airport's name “Konrad Adenauer” was only given as an addition to Cologne-Bonn airport in the year 1994 in commemoration of the first German chancellor, who supported the civilian use of the airport after the Second World War. Until 1957, Cologne-Wahn was used by the military only. In the years that followed, Cologne airport was expanded for civilian use when new runways, terminals, a tower and car parks were built in anticipation of increasing numbers of passengers and flights. Cologne Airport is used as a hub by Germanwings, a German airline that offers cheap flights from Cologne to Berlin-Schönefeld, Hamburg or Munich for example. Air Berlin also operates very cheap flights to Cologne-Bonn from Berlin-Tegel.

To get to Cologne-Bonn Airport by car or taxi, please use the A59 highway. It is also possible to take buses (line 161 from Cologne Porz market, which is on the S-Bahn Line 7) or trains to Cologne-Bonn airport. Parking is available for more than 12,000 vehicles in parking lots 1 and 2, which are located directly at Terminal 1 and 2, or in parking lot 3 or the open air parking lot north (PN) close to Terminal 2. Short stay parking is available for up to two hours in front of the arrival and departure halls. Parking fees at Cologne airport depend on the type of parking and the duration.

Rental cars at Cologne Airport are available from Avis, Europcar, Hertz or Sixt rent a car. Car hire offices and desks are open from 9 am to 9 pm and are located in Terminal D 2 (arrivals). To return hire cars at Cologne-Bonn airport, please head for the parking lot P2 (Terminal 2).

The carnival city on the Rhine is famous for Cologne cathedral, the great bridges over the Rhine which lend it its Mediterranean flair especially in summer, and for its football team, the 1st FC Cologne.
