Airport Dresden

Dresden Airport is in the town of Klotzsche north of the city of Dresden in Saxony, Germany (official name: Dresden International) and takes up an area of about 280 hectares. The airport was founded in 1935 as a military and civilian airport and at that time boasted a very modern terminal. Dresden airport is now one of the most important airports in the eastern German and northern Czech region. It is easy to reach by car on the B97 or A4 (from the southwest and northeast) and A13 (from the north). Coming from the south please use the national highway B57. Dresden airport has parking spaces for 3000 vehicles and parking is easy and convenient. Car park PH is connected to the airport terminal by a skywalk glass tunnel. Further car parks include the short-term parking PK1 and PK2 between the terminal and car park P3 for all who wish to park their car at Dresden airport for little money. The car park is only a few minutes walk from the terminal building and is located opposite the Airport Center. Parking fees at Dresden airport can be paid in cash or with debit or credit cards at the ticket vending machines. In the terminal building there are currency exchange machines and restaurants, coffee bars and shopping facilities as well as plenty of opportunity to book last minute flights at one of 20 travel agencies at Dresden airport. Those wishing to rent a car at the airport are faced with a wide choice of car hire companies. The offices of the various car rental companies are located on the arrivals level of the terminal. Cars can be picked up and returned to the car park opposite. To get from Dresden Airport to the city centre, there are several transfer possibilities as well as taxis. The journey costs around 20 € by taxi (October 2011). Those who check in at the Mercure Hotel, Hilton or Rothenburger Hof in Dresden and at the Holiday Inn in Bautzen can also use the shuttle service to and from the hotel. However, it may well be more practical to spend the night at an airport hotel such as the Gold Inn Hotel Dresden and the Dresden Point Hotel or at one of the many guest houses. Dresden city centre and its numerous tourist attractions are easy to reach from these as well as the hotels in the centre of the city. Besides the Semperoper and the Dresden Zwinger behind it, the Frauenkirche and the Green Vault in Dresden are also worth visiting. Visitors to the city on occasions such as one of the trade fairs or concerts in Dresden are advised to book their flights and accommodation well in advance of their stay.
