Airport Hong Kong
Hong Kong International Airport is also known by the name of Chek Lap Kok Airport. Named after Chek Lap Kok island on which it is located, the airport was opened in 1998 and replaced the old Kai Tak airport. Hong Kong Airport is now one of the largest airports in the world and is an important transport hub in the region. In 2010, the airport handled over 50 million passengers and more than 4 million tons of freight at two terminals and two runways. Airport management is planning to continue to invest in the airport's infrastructure and the handling of freight transport in future years. Passengers arriving at the airport can use public transport services to reach downtown Hong Kong which is situated 40 km or 25 miles from the airport. The AirportExpress takes 25 minutes for the journey into Hong Kong. Many buses also run between downtown Hong Kong and the airport. Taxi ranks are located in front of the flight arrivals hall. Taxis are colour coded and will transport passengers to different regions according to colour. Red taxis go to the urban area of Hong Kong. Blue taxis drive to Lantau Island and the green taxis will take passengers to the New Territories. There are also a number of shuttle buses operated by local hotels including the Regal Hotel Hong Kong which is in the downtown area.
