Airport Istanbul

Ataturk airport is the larger of the two airports in the Turkish capital Istanbul. It was opened in 1912 and named after the first president of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. More than 32 million passengers are handled annually at Istanbul-Atatürk airport, which is located almost 25 km or 17 miles southwest of Istanbul's city centre. Direct flights from London to Istanbul are operated by British Airways or Turkish Airlines from Heathrow Airport. Flight takes about 4 hours. Cheap flights to Istanbul are not only operated by low-cost airlines, passengers booking early will also have good chances of getting to Istanbul relatively cheaply with a scheduled flight. To get from the airport to the city centre travellers may take either the M1 metro line, bus or the Havas shuttle which leaves on the hour. Alternatively, there are taxis at the airport or 24 hour car rental at one of nearly 20 car rental companies based at Istanbul Ataturk airport. Besides the well-known international car rental companies such as Hertz or Alamo, there is also a choice of cheaper Turkish car rental providers such as BAF Rent A Car, Elazığ Murat Turizm and Ülger Rent A Car. Those wishing to rest on arriving at the airport may book a room at one of the first class hotels near the airport. Cheaper rooms can be reserved at one of the many hostels in Istanbul. Most of these are conveniently located in the centre and cater to all tastes and pockets.
