Airport London-Stansted

London Stansted is London's third largest airport. It is located 55 km or 30 miles northeast of the capital in the county of Essex. From its opening in 1942 until the 1990s it was used by the military. Faced with the overuse of the two major London airports Heathrow and Gatwick, the decision was taken in the 90s to expand Stansted airport. Today, the airport is mainly served by budget airlines. The low-cost airline Ryanair has its largest hub at London-Stansted. The easiest and quickest way to reach Stansted Airport from London is by taking the Stansted Express. The train takes about 50 minutes between Liverpool Street Station and Stansted aiport. At the underground station Tottenham Hale, passengers may also take the London Underground. There are also connections to other cities operated by National Express East Anglia and Cross Country Trains. Bus stations are situated opposite the terminal. Several bus routes serve central London and Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton. The airport is also close to the M11 motorway between London and Cambridge. There is plenty of parking available. In the immediate vicinity of the terminal are the short-term car parks. Long-term parking is clearly signposted. Shuttle buses transport passengers and their luggage from the car parks to the terminal. Passengers travelling particularly early or late at night can stay at one of the hotels in Stansted. Hotels near the airport include the Radisson Blu Hotel London Stansted and the Holiday Inn London-Stansted.
