Airport Miami

Used by around 34 million passengers per year, Miami International Airport is the twelfth largest airport in the United States. It was opened in 1928 and was initially used mainly by Pan American Airways, since 1934 also by Eastern Air Lines and since 1937 by National Airlines as well. After the bankruptcy of Pan Am and Eastern, United Airlines and American Airlines took over their network and aviation hubs. The six departure halls at Miami airport are divided into three terminals. The North Terminal including Gate D is used exclusively by American Airlines and American Eagle, while British Airways flights are handled at Gate E or F in the Central Terminal and Continental Airlines and Delta Air Lines flights are handled at Gate G and H in the South terminal. Those who land at the airport in Miami can easily hire a car (look out for the "Car Rental" signs). Borrowing a car directly at Miami airport will eliminate the need to worry about transfer to and from the airport or travel to the downtown area, Miami Beach or towards Fort Lauderdale. Alternatively, passengers can take a taxi from Miami Airport to Miami Beach or use a hotel shuttle bus. Many hotels - even in Fort Lauderdale - offer this service for free to their guests. Of course, there is also plenty of accommodation near the airport, for instance at the Miami International Airport Hotel Holiday Inn or Crowne Plaza Miami International Airport Hotel. Since the weather in Miami is pleasantly warm throughout the year, tourists can always visit one of the many outdoor attractions such as the Port of Miami which is one of the biggest ports in the world or visit the Jungle Island park with its free flying parrots and other birds. Indoor pursuits include cafes (e.g. Mangos Tropical Cafe on Ocean Drive) or many trendy nightclubs such as the Cameo Miami or Clubspace which are open all night.
