Mumbai Airport

The airport in Mumbai (Bombay) now bears the official name of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and until 2006, was known by the name Sahar International Airport. The name change occurred at the time of privatization, reconstruction and modernization. The airport has two terminals, which are located so far apart that one of the two runways runs between them. Domestic flights are handled at Terminal 1, also called "Santa Cruz Airport", while international flights are handled from Terminal 2, sometimes also called "Sahar Airport". A shuttle bus operates between the check-in areas, with a journey time of about 20 minutes.

The onward journey from Mumbai airport to the city is possible using taxis and public transport. In general, the taxi fare is paid in advance. In the arrivals hall tickets can be purchased for the "pre-paid taxis". Depending on traffic, a taxi ride to the centre of Mumbai can take up to two hours. Tickets for the train or bus to the city centre or for the long-distance buses may also be purchased in the arrivals hall.
