Airport New York

John F. Kennedy International Airport is the largest airport in New York City (even coming before Newark Liberty International Airport and La Guardia Airport). It is also the sixth largest in the United States. The airport was built in the 1940s and officially opened in 1948. Initially it was called New York International Airport, but after the death of the popular U.S. President John F. Kennedy, was renamed John F. Kennedy International Airport in his honour. New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport has nine terminals. Flights operated by Aer Lingus, Virgin or KLM are for instance handled at Terminal 4. British Airways, Quantas and United Airlines operate to and from Terminal 7, while Terminal 8 is reserved for use by Air Berlin, American or Jet Airways, for example. Transfer to the New York City subway, which will take passengers into the city and the various districts in New York, is provided by AirTrain JFK. This automated and completely self-moving express train connects the various terminals to one another. The New York subway will take visitors quickly and easily to all the sights in the city such as the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, or the Empire State Building, and of course, Fifth Avenue, New York's famous shopping boulevard which is particularly popular as a holiday destination before Christmas. Renting a car at JFK Airport is also very convenient at one of the many car rental companies which have branches in each terminal. Alternatively please use the free car rental courtesy phones. Passengers arriving late or with early departures from JFK Airport in New York have the choice of staying in a number of airport hotels. Many hotels also offer free shuttle services for their guests, such as the Sheraton JFK Airport Hotel, the Best Western Kennedy Airport Hotel and the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel JFK Airport.
