Airport Nuremberg

Nuremberg airport (Nürnberg airport) is located 7 km or 4 miles north of the city. It was opened in 1955 at this location and had previously been located in what is now the Volkspark Marienberg, south of where Nuremberg airport is now. This airport was completely destroyed during the Second World War. In the 60s and 70s the airport was rebuilt and expanded, and in July 1970 a Boeing 747 jumbo jet was able to land at the airport. Since 1997, Nuremberg airport has also been a hub of Air Berlin. The airport is in the vanguard of German airports as far as service is concerned: in 2008 it was elected “Best German airport” by "Business Traveller" readers and was also awarded first place in the 2009 study conducted by n-tv on the quality of service at airports in Germany. Nuremberg airport has a passenger terminal with two arrivals halls and one departure lounge, which houses the check in desks along with cafes, restaurants and many shops. To get from the airport to the city centre passengers may use local buses and trains. The underground (U-Bahn) line 12 will transfer passengers to Nuremberg's main railway station within 12 minutes; city bus number 32 operates a service to the Park & Ride at Nürnberg Thon. There is also parking directly at the airport. Car park P1 is opposite the departure hall 2; behind this is car park P3 with a total of 2,200 parking spaces. Open air parking is available at P7, P12 and P31 and these are reserved for long-term parking. Here and in car parks P2 and P3 there is a special holiday savings rate. Between P7 and P31 is the short-term car park P5. Parking spaces at Nuremberg airport amount to approximately 9,000 spaces in total. Fees are based on the type of car park and duration. The Mövenpick Hotel Nürnberg Airport is located between car parks P1 and P2 and these can be used for an overnight stay in the vicinity of the airport. The Fürther Hotel Mercure Nuremberg West is approximately 15 minutes from Nuremberg airport. Here guests may park their car for free for 15 nights after one nights stay in the hotel – the offer includes a free taxi service to and from the airport. Nestor Hotel Nuremberg also offers this service. Those wishing to rent a car after arriving at Nuremberg airport will find the usual international car rental companies such as Avis or Budget adjacent to the arrivals hall. Europcar is opposite the Departure Hall 2 at the car park P1.
