Airport Oslo

Oslo-Gardermoen International Airport is located about 50 km or 30 miles north of the centre of Oslo. It is the largest airport in Norway and has won several awards from the Association of European Airlines for being the most punctual airport in Europe. Until 1998, Oslo Gardermoen airport was used by the Norwegian Air Force. When, in the 1990s, the old airport Oslo-Fornebu was no longer large enough to cope with the increase in passenger numbers, the decision was taken to expand Gardermoen for civilian use. Today, the airport has two parallel runways for take-off and landing along with one terminal. In preparation for a passenger volume of 28 million, plans are under way to further expand the airport and construct another terminal, which is due to be completed by 2017. A train service, Flytoget Airport Express Train, runs between the airport and Oslo central station at 10 minute intervals; the journey takes about 20 minutes. Regional trains, operated by the Norwegian state railway NSB, also connect the airport with cities such as Skien, Oslo, Lillehammer and Trondheim. The Flybussekspressen bus operates on various routes between the airport, Oslo and Eastern Norway and the SAS Service Flybussen operates services to the central station and Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel. This service is available at 20 minute intervals and the journey takes about 40 minutes. The Nettbuss also runs between Kongsvinger, Årnes and Oslo Airport. This bus also serves hotels in the vicinity of the airport. For passengers arriving by car, the airport has approximately 4000 parking spaces distributed on three car parks. A shuttle bus operates at 15 minute intervals and transports passengers between the terminal and car parks.
