Airport Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca airport (in Spanish "Aeropuerto de Son Sant Joan") is the only international airport on the island of Mallorca. The airport is located in the East of the city Palma de Mallorca, the capital of Mallorca. Many airlines operate flights to Majorca, including low-cost providers such as Monarch and Easyjet. Due to the immense rise in passenger volume, Palma de Mallorca Airport is due to be expanded in 2015 in order to be able to handle 38 million passengers per year. The capacity of the airport is currently 25 million. There are four terminals at the airport; terminal A is primarily used for flights within Spain and terminals B to D are reserved mainly for international flights to and from Mallorca. In the multi-story terminal building, two levels are used for departures and one level is the arrivals area. A tunnel connects the terminal building to the car park which can be used free of charge for 30 minutes. Long-term parking is available on the ground floor and the 5th and 6th floors of the airport car park. It is also convenient to rent a car at the airport. Rental cars can be reserved and collected at one of the many car hire agencies. Goldcar, a Spanish car hire is particularly popular and their cars are comparatively cheap. There is also the possibility of using public transport or a taxi to get from Palma Airport to the city centre. A taxi ride from hotel to airport will cost at least 11 €. To the Playa de Palma, for example, taxi costs ranged between 14 to 20 euros in the summer of 2011. A cheaper alternative is the bus. There are two bus services - one between Palma de Mallorca airport and the centre of the city (bus 1) and another that goes to the seaside resort of Arenal and the major hotels in the area (line 21).
