Airport Salzburg

Salzburg airport is about four kilometres (or two and a half miles) from the city centre and an important airport for the winter sports resorts near Salzburg. It has two terminals of which Terminal 2, Amadeus Terminal, is only used during the peak season in winter on Saturdays. On other days, it is hired out for events. The first flight from the airport started in 1926 from Munich via Salzburg to Bad Reichenhall. At the beginning, a simple runway with a few wooden houses was enough for flight operations. Today, after many extensions and much modernisation work, the airport has become an international transport hub in a central location. In 2010, over 1.6 million passengers and more than 20,000 flights were handled in Salzburg. Parking at Salzburg airport is possible in close proximity to Terminal 1 in a multi-storey car park with more than 1,700 parking spaces. Short-term parking is available in car parks P1 and P2 outside the airport terminal. For long stay parking, please head for the P3 or P7 car parks. Fees can be paid at the ticket machines in the arrivals area by cash or credit card. By car, the airport is easily reached on the A1 and A10 or the federal A-road 1. A taxi ride to Salzburg's city centre will take about 10 to 15 minutes. There are also bus stops outside Terminal 1 served by the bus numbers 2, 8 and 27 that go from Salzburg Airport to Central Station and the inner city. Buses 260 and 180 link the airport with the Salzburg region, including Bad Reichenhall, Zell am See and Saalfelden.
