Airport San Francisco

San Francisco International Airport is the main passenger airport in the Californian city San Francisco. In terms of annual passenger volume (currently 23 million passengers) it is also one of the 25 largest airports in the world. San Francisco airport serves as a hub for American Airlines, United Airlines and Virgin America. The four terminal buildings (Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 and the International terminal) of the airport are arranged in a ring and are divided up into seven areas (A to G). Flights from London to San Francisco are for example operated by US Airways with direct non-stop flights, and Delta Air Lines usually operating via Amsterdam. BMI British Midland also fly from airports in the UK such as Belfast, London or Edinburgh to San Francisco airport. Once at the Californian airport, visitors may wish to rent a car. To get to the car hire offices please follow the signs to the “Car Rental Center” where you will find branches of all the usual international car rental companies. There are also plenty of hotels in or around San Francisco airport providing the possibility of convenient accommodation on arrival or if in transit. Passengers may for instance stay at the Best Western El Rancho Inn & Suites or The Westin San Francisco Airport hotel. There are, however, many other hotels in San Francisco - whether in downtown San Francisco or near Golden Gate Bridge. The San Francisco Airport shuttle offers services to hotels such as the Vertigo hotel near Union Square or the San Francisco Intercontinental. Those on a smaller budget can stay at hostels, motels or budget hotels such as the Columbus Motor Inn near Fisherman's Wharf or the Hotel Triton in downtown San Francisco. There are also a number of public transport networks in San Francisco taking passengers quickly and conveniently to their desired destination. The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) links San Francisco airport with the inner city and surrounding cities east of San Francisco bay. The famous cable cars are operated by the San Francisco Municipal Railway or Muni and do not stop at the airport in San Francisco. Attractions such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, the curvy road - Lombard Street, the Civic Center and Chinatown are, however, all accessible using the Muni trolley buses.
