Airport Stuttgart
Stuttgart Airport is the seventh largest airport in Germany and is located in the Stuttgart suburb of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, which is why, until 2000, it was known by the name “Aiport Stuttgart-Echterdingen". It was first in use as early as 1939 and during the Second World War served as a military airport. After the takeover by the French in 1945 the airport was handed over to the city of Stuttgart three years later, and was then finally reopened to civilian air traffic. In subsequent years it has been expanded to include a control tower, hangars and terminals, and the runway has been extended. Meanwhile, Stuttgart airport has five terminals. West T1 and T2 are only used for check-in, T1, T3 and T4 have their own gates. Stuttgart Airport is easy to reach using the S-Bahn (city trains) S2 and S3 from Stuttgart or by car on the A8 and B27. Those arriving by car will find plenty of opportunity to park at the airport. In car park P0 parking is free for one hour. Parking fees for the other car parks will vary depending on the parking duration and the car park's proximity to the terminals. Short-term parking is possible on the car park P3, P5 and P7. Car rental is also available at Stuttgart airport: there are six rental car companies on level 2 of Terminal 2: Avis, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Terstappen – all companies have vehicles of different sizes. Those passengers with an early departure or very late arrival have the opportunity to stay at a hotel near the airport – the Mövenpick Hotel Stuttgart Airport is very close to Stuttgart Airport. The Ibis Hotel Stuttgart Airport Messe and Mercure Hotel Stuttgart Airport are also very close to both airport and the exhibition centre; the latter offers a free shuttle service to and from the airport. Alternatively, there are also plenty of hotels in Stuttgart city centre along with hostels to suit all pockets. At the airport, airline passengers will not only be able to inform themselves of the current flight timetables and airlines operating at the airport, they can also book a last minute flight or package holiday at one of the many travel agents with offices at the airport. The airport is well developed and houses a wide variety of shops, coffee bars and restaurants. There are also smoking lounges in the security area on Level 3 of Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 level 2. In the rest of the airport there is a strict no smoking policy.
