Campinas-Viracopos Airport

Campinas-Viracopos International Airport is one of the most important airports in Brazil. It is the second most important airport in Brazil and is about 55 miles north of the city of Sao Paulo. Both of Sao Paulos airports, Congonhas and Guarulhos, have reached the limits of their capacities and the Brazilian civil aviation authority, INFRAERO, has planned to extend Campinas-Viracopos Airport beginning in 2009 in order to meet the needs of growing air traffic in the area. According to plans, the airport is due to become the largest in the country even in the whole of Latin America. The airport code CPQ results in misleading information as this IATA - Code was originally used for Campinas - Amarais Airport, for this reason Campinas - Viracopos also has an alternative IATA-Code VCP, which has however only been used by a few Brazilian airlines.
